Are you eligible for help with your childcare costs?

If you are in receipt of social welfare payments or you are undertaking certain FÁS or VEC courses, your child may be able to access a childcare place under either the Community Childcare Subvention (CCS) Scheme or the Childcare Employment and Training Support (CETS) scheme.

Community Childcare Subvention Scheme (CCS)

This is a subsidy scheme through which parents can access childcare places at Community childcare facilities at a reduced cost. Eligibility is based on parents’ circumstances and if they are in receipt of a social welfare payment.

Childcare Education and Training Support Scheme (CETS)

Free childcare places are available to eligible FÁS and VEC trainees under the CETS scheme. Parents who qualify for the scheme will get a letter from FÁS or the VEC outlining their entitlement to CETS and can either contact a provider directly and/or the Cork County Childcare Committee to source a suitable place. Not all childcare providers are part of the CETS scheme, to look for childcare providers in your area who do offer the places, click here.

Once a parent has started their course they will get a letter from FÁS/VEC to say they have started the course which should be given to the childcare provider.

Every week the parent will be asked to sign an attendance sheet to confirm that they are still attending the course and their child is still attending the childcare service.

The Government then pays the childcare service to provide that childcare place for free.
